Scorpions '99
Capture Soccer by the Bay Title
SASC Scorpions 99 won their first
tournament of the fall season.
In the first game of the tournament, the
Scorpions trailed 2-0 early, but answered with 4 goals to cap an exciting 4-2
come from behind victory.
That momentum carried into games 2 & 3
where the Scorpions stung their opponents with wins of 6-0 & 6-1. The
Scorpions scored 20 goals total while only allowing only 6 in four games over
the course of the weekend.
With 3 pool play wins under their belt, the
Scorpions were heading into the championship match against a very impressive
Alpine Eagles team. The Eagles started out quickly, scoring 2 quick goals in
the first 10 minutes of the game. Realizing they had an uphill climb the
Scorpions put together several great passing attacks and for the next 10
minutes scored 3 goals to take the lead.
The Eagles found an seam late
in the first half and scored with 1 minute left in the opening half, tying the
game 3-3.
In the second half, both team were tired and had to dig
deep. After 15 minutes of competitive play the Scorpions found the net, taking
a 4-3 lead! Both teams battled back and forth over the last ten minutes of the
game, but the Eagles were unable to penetrate the Scorpions defense, preserving
the win.
The Eagles are a great team & opponent," said
Scorpions head Coach John Holguin. "They played hard and played clea. We have
great respect for them. I told our boys that when you play to your potential
and as a team you can do great things. Todays win was a reflection of
that".
